What is the difference between archiving and suspending the computer?
If you no longer want to back up a certain computer, but want to keep its data for later restoration, then archiving the computer is the best option for you.
When you archive a computer, it will be removed from the added computers while keeping the backed up files (used space will not be reduced). Typically used for computers you no longer want to use, also to save a spot for a new computer in your account (as you can add only one computer (for home users) and three computers\user (for Business users) while keeping files from the archived computer available for later restoration.
If you want to temporarily stop backing up that computer, instead of archiving it. Suspending a computer is like pausing backup on this computer from the server, this does not remove the computer from your "My Computers" page in the dashboard, but simply tells the desktop client to suspend backup from this destination computer. and wait for a resume request.
Finally, once you have archived any machine, you will not be able to activate it or continue using this backup again.
What is the maximum file size I can share?
You can share any file regardless of its size, as long as you have enough space in your account to store it.
Does sharing make my file public for anyone to access?
It depends on where you post the shared link. If you publish it to a website, anyone who has access to the site can view the file.
Sin embargo, si lo envía a una persona y la persona no lo expone, es tan privado como un correo electrónico.
You can configure the options in Add Sharing Settings to allow only one download to prevent multiple accesses to the file and to send each other delivery notifications when sharing the file.
Why is "Sharing" in the context menu disabled on my computer?
There are two reasons for this problem:
- The files you want to share are not backed up:You must first add the file to CosmicBackup in order to share it.

Why is CosmicBackup slowing down my machine?
This happens because your Antivirus Program keeps scanning and blocking every file moved by CosmicBackup, and this may cause a conflict. So check your Firewall or Antivirus software.
CosmicBackup is a backup software, which means you need to check your files for changes and modifications and communicate with the server to check the current backup status.
While this is normal behavior for a backup software, some antivirus software may think it is suspicious and constantly scan the files and folders of the CosmicBackup application, thus making it difficult to browse the files and sometimes unable to communicate with the server.
Try excluding the following files/folders from your antivirus:
- C:\Program Files\Genie9\CosmicBackup2
- C: \ Users \ UserName \ AppData \ Roaming \ Genie9 \ CosmicBackup
- C:\Program Files\Genie9\CosmicBackup2\CosmicBackup.exe
- C:\Program Files\Genie9\CosmicBackup2\CosmicBackupService.exe
The website and software are blocked. Why is that?
Your antivirus application, firewall, or optimization system may be interfering with CosmicBackup. Consider adding CosmicBackup to your application whitelist.
Find the steps to exclude files/folders from CosmicBackup from your Antivirus below:
And make sure you have TCP ports 80 and 443 open and available through your Firewall.

I had to reinstall Windows. When I tried to reinstall CosmicBackup, it asks me to archive my computer
CosmicBackup stores backup settings and machine information in its folder (%appdata%\Genie9\CosmicBackup). When you move to a new machine, change the hard drive, reinstall Windows, or even uninstall CosmicBackup without selecting the option to keep CosmicBackup settings (recommended if you want to reinstall), this information will be deleted.

Now, when you reinstall CosmicBackup and log into your account, if you have already reached the maximum number of computers*, you will be prompted to delete or archive the older machines in order to add the new machine.
The good news is that CosmicBackup has a deduplication feature that will prevent re-uploading the same previously backed up files. For more information, see this article.
CosmicBackup Home users can only backup 1 machine/user, but CosmicBackup Business users can backup up to 3 machines/users.
CosmicBackup dashboard shows "Analyzing", "Loading" or "Waiting for next schedule" but never proceeds, what can I do now?
To resolve this issue, you must do the following:
- Make sure you have the latest version of CosmicBackup by right-clicking on the CosmicBackup agent in the system tray → Select Tools → Click Check for Updates.
- Clear backup cache:
- Find the location of CosmicBackup cache folder as mentioned here.
- If the Backup Cache folder is still in its default location (on the C: drive), open this folder and delete the contents of the Backup folder from the Cache folder.
- If you have moved the cache folder to another drive, go to that drive → _CosmicBackupCache → Open the folder you will find inside it (This folder is named after your username) → Delete the contents of the Backup Cache folder.
- Exit CosmicBackup. (Right click on the CosmicBackup agent in the system tray → Exit)
- Start CosmicBackup. (From Start menu → All Programs → CosmicBackup → Zo
Where does CosmicBackup store temporary files during backup?
CosmicBackup stores these files in the Backup Cache folder. By default, this folder is stored in:
% Appdata% \ Genie9 \ CosmicBackup \ Jobs \ {6E820F39-1F0F-4C22-A9F6-5E7CAE6F6FA7} \ Data \ BackupCache
You can change your location by doing the following:

- From Settings → Preferences → See General tab → Click Change Cache Drive.
- Select the drive you want CosmicBackup to save the backup cache to, and then save your changes.

My storage is full, how can I free up some space?
The used space that you can see in the CosmicBackup dashboard on your machine client or your CosmicBackup online account is for all the machines and users you have under your account and not just your machine/user, so Free up space, please refer to the following:
- Delete unwanted files from backup.
- Delete Deleted Items from Backup: If you deleted files from your machine, they will not be deleted from your CosmicBackup online account unless you specify otherwise (using the Retention option). You can delete these files from your CosmicBackup online account.
To view these deleted files, go to the My Computers tab in your CosmicBackup online account → From the More menu, select Show Deleted.
- Delete the versions of the file you don't want.
- Delete the archived machine: If you have previously archived any of your machines and you no longer need to back it up, go ahead and delete this machine from your account.
- Delete unwanted machines from backup.

- First of all, check if this option is enabled: from the CosmicBackup website:

- Click Edit.
- See the Settings tab.
- Enable CosmicBackup Bookmarks. From your computer:
- Right-click the CosmicBackup agent in the system tray and select Open Control Panel.
- See Settings and then select Advanced Settings.
- Make sure the Show backup markers on backed up files option is selected.
- If you use more than one program that uses icon overlays, Windows will disable some of the overlays, so try disabling the overlays for the other programs.
- CosmicBackup folder bookmarks will not appear in Windows 7 Library “Pictures, Music…” folders due to the fact that Windows design prohibits giving third-party overlays in these folders. You will find that the icons work correctly on the folders and files within it.
Why can't I drag/drop my files and folders to my CosmicBackup online account?
- The drag/drop functionality depends on the Internet browser you are using.
- If you are using Internet Explorer, you will not be able to drag/drop files or folders directly into your CosmicBackup online account.
- If you are using Firefox or Safari, you will not be able to drag/drop folders directly into your CosmicBackup online account. You can only do that with files.
- With Google Chrome, you'll be able to drag/drop files and folders directly into your CosmicBackup online account.
- You can use this feature only if you have Instant Storage, Instant Vault, or Cold Vault.
Why is "Sharing" in the context menu disabled on my computer?
- There are two reasons for this problem:
- The files you want to share are not backed up: you must first add the file to CosmicBackup before you can share it.
- These files are stored in cold storage - you must backup these files using instant storage.
How to set multiple schedules for CosmicBackup?
- CosmicBackup will run the backup based on the backup frequency or backup schedule you have set for it.
- If you have decided to run CosmicBackup on a certain schedule, then CosmicBackup will use the Windows Task Scheduler to achieve this. So, if you want to configure CosmicBackup to run on different schedules for some days of the month or times of the year, for example, you can achieve this with the steps below:
- Open CosmicBackup → Settings → Schedule → Select the On schedule option and set any day and time to start the backup at → Save changes. Or, if you have assigned a policy to this user, go to this policy → Settings tab → Backup Schedule and set any day and time to start the backup in → Save the policy.
- Now, on your machine, go to Start menu → Control Panel → Administrative Tools → Double click on Task Scheduler.
- From the left pane of Windows Task Scheduler, select Task Scheduler Library.
- Locate the task called “CosmicBackup Start Backup” and right-click on it, then go to Export -> save it to your desktop.
- Right-click an empty spot in the Scheduler Library and then click “Import,” then select the previously exported task from where you saved it.
- Once the task configuration dialog box is displayed, make sure to change the name of the task, then from the Triggers tab, select the trigger that appears there and click the Edit button.
- From the window that will appear, select Monthly, Yearly or Daily, etc., and set your second schedule in terms of run time and periods.
- Save the changes.
- Note that if you edit the Settings in CosmicBackup or the Policy, the scheduling settings in the task scheduler will be reset to the same values in the Scheduling Settings in the policy or in the CosmicBackup client.
- The same steps apply to changing the bandwidth throttle schedule, the task name in the task scheduler is CosmicBackup Startup Throttle.

File Deduplication
CosmicBackup has introduced a deduplication feature. This feature will work between your machines and CosmicBackup servers to locate duplicate files.
So when:
- You move your files to a new machine
- Reinstall Windows on your machine
- Back up the same file from two or more machines
- Back up the same file that is stored in two or more locations
- When you start a new full backup on the current one and configure CosmicBackup to backup the same files
- When you want to move the same data from an old drive to a new one.
CosmicBackup will be able to see that you previously backed up the same files. Accordingly, CosmicBackup will scan the files again, but will not upload them at any time, saving you bandwidth.
On the server side, those duplicate files will be copied under the new location so you can find and restore them from any location you prefer.
Deduplication is disabled for files that you have backed up using Block Level technology
